Privacy Policy
Effective 20 July 2026. This version replaces the policy dated 1 January 2025, which described the app inaccurately.
The short version
Meteo Wave has no accounts and no sign-in. To show you a forecast it sends your coordinates to our server, which passes them to weather providers and returns the result — we do not keep them. The Android app additionally registers a resettable device identifier with us, and both apps show ads from Google. The sections below say exactly what that means, per platform.
Who we are

What the apps send us
The two apps do not behave identically, so they are listed separately rather than described as one product.

Location
Location is the one permission the app genuinely needs, and you can decline it — searching for a city by name works without it.
- On Android the app requests approximate location only. It does not request precise location or background location.
- On iPhone and iPad the app currently requests Always authorisation with full accuracy and enables background updates, so it can refresh the forecast for where you are. You can change this at any time in Settings → Privacy & Security → Location Services, and we are narrowing this request in a future release.
- Coordinates are sent to our server to fetch a forecast and are not stored there.
- There is no geofencing and no movement tracking in either app.
Advertising
The free version of Meteo Wave is supported by ads served by Google — AdMob on iPhone and iPad, Google Ad Manager on Android. Google's advertising systems collect their own data, including device and coarse-location signals and, on Android, the advertising ID.
- On Android the app shows Google's consent form before requesting ads, and you can reopen it any time from Settings to change or withdraw your choice.
- On iPhone and iPad the app does not present Apple's App Tracking Transparency prompt, and therefore does not receive the IDFA — ads are served without it. A consent flow for users in the EEA and UK is being added.
- Buying any paid tier removes ads entirely.
Google's own handling of this data is governed by its policy at policies.google.com.
Analytics and crash reporting
- iPhone and iPad: none. The app contains no analytics or crash-reporting SDK.
- Android: Firebase Analytics, Crashlytics and In-App Messaging are bundled and begin collecting automatically — app events, crash reports and a Firebase installation identifier. We do not add custom event tracking on top of them.
Push notifications
Only the Android app can receive push notifications, through Firebase Cloud Messaging. It subscribes to a single broadcast topic; there is no per-user targeting, and the messaging token is not sent to our servers. The iPhone app posts only local notifications generated on the device.
Who else receives your data
Forecasts are not something we produce ourselves. To answer a request, your coordinates — never your device identifier — are passed to:
- Open-Meteo — forecasts, air quality, and city name lookup (which also receives your typed search text)
- AccuWeather — severe weather checks
- meteoblue — the map, radar and warnings screens open meteoblue's own website inside the app, so meteoblue also sees your IP address
- OpenStreetMap Nominatim (Android) — reverse geocoding a coordinate to a place name
- Apple (iOS) and Google (Android) — the operating system's own geocoding, and app store purchase handling
We do not sell your data, and we do not share it with data brokers.
What our servers keep
Our own database holds very little:
- Android devices: one row containing the ANDROID_ID value and the device model and OS version reported at first launch.
- Android purchases: the purchase token, product identifier, package name, device identifier, price and renewal state.
- Support messages: whatever you choose to put in them.
No coordinates, no city lists, no browsing or usage history. As with any website, our hosting provider's web server keeps standard access logs, which include IP addresses, for operational and security purposes.
How long we keep it, and how to have it deleted
We currently have no automatic deletion schedule, which means the records above are kept indefinitely unless you ask us to remove them. We are putting a defined retention period in place.
To have your data deleted, email [email protected] from any address and tell us you want your record removed. If you are on Android, resetting your advertising ID and reinstalling the app also detaches you from the stored identifier. We will confirm within 30 days.
Your rights
Depending on where you live, you may have the right to access, correct, export, restrict or delete your personal data, to object to processing, and to withdraw consent — including under the GDPR in the EEA and UK, and the CCPA/CPRA in California. Use the same address above; we do not charge for these requests and we will not treat you differently for making one.
Where we rely on consent — advertising on Android — you can withdraw it in the app at any time. Where we rely on legitimate interests, that covers keeping the service running and preventing abuse.
Children
Meteo Wave is a general-audience weather app and is not directed at children. We do not knowingly collect data from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided us with data, write to us and we will remove it.
Security
We limit what we collect, avoid storing coordinates, and use no passwords or payment details that could be exposed. Requests to our servers are made over HTTPS. We are actively strengthening transport-level verification in the Android app; until that work ships we would rather say so here than claim a guarantee we cannot yet make. No method of transmission or storage is ever completely secure.
International transfers
Our servers are in the European Union, our company is in the United Arab Emirates, and the providers listed above operate globally. Using the app means your data may be processed in countries other than your own.
Changes
We will update this page when the app changes and move the effective date at the top. Material changes will also be noted in the app's release notes.
